I was a classroom teacher for 15 years with the pleasure of having taught in public high schools, alternative high schools, a charter middle school, and a gifted program for upper elementary students. I have been honored in Who's Who Amongst America's Teachers in 2000 and named to the Honor Roll of the Fishman Prize for Superlative Classroom Practice in 2015. During a transitional phase of my career, I pursued my master's degree in Professional Counseling with a focus on community counseling. I completed clinical work in the field of juvenile justice and substance abuse to complete my licensure and continued as a life coach specializing in work with adolescents, families, and substance abuse. I volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children from 2007 until 2017. I switched my volunteer activity to Give An Hour, a nonprofit that connects active and retired military and their families with mental health counseling. My goals revolve around helping individuals and families be their best selves by using successes in the past to confront and conquer current life challenges. I am also passionate about making parents trust their instincts in advocating for their children in and out of the classroom. I also strive to help schools add to their teaching toolboxes in order to provide all school personnel some insights to the psychology of students so when the classroom becomes a community center in the wake of a local or national tragedy, our beloved students are helped through a tragedy, not dealing with trauma.
On a personal note, when I'm not focusing on changing the national conversation regarding education, I can most likely be found horsing around with my son, husband, dog, or any combination of them. I am a native New Jerseyean who was adopted by Chicago (go Northwestern Wildcats) which has caused me to be a snob about "real" bagels and pizza. I have also been known to be overenthusiastic about my beloved Chicago Bears and my fantasy football team, The Brute Squad. I indulge in dreams of being a foodie by obsessing over most cooking reality shows. My husband and I still geek-out with most things sci-fi, especially Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I can also quote the entirety of The Princess Bride without error or shame. |

LiveNLearn, LLC strives to teach families how to be strong together to beat life’s challenges by providing mental health services and successful educational advocacy. Our goal is to help individuals, families, and professionals reconnect with their best selves.
Our vision
Life’s unpredictable nature puts a tremendous amount of stress on you and those that surround you at work and at home. Regular check-ups, vitamins, and healthy living strengthen us against life-altering diseases. Even our cars get routine maintenance so our families can safety get around on a daily basis. What about your mental health? The mind-body connection is no longer a mystery; your mental health is deeply connected to your physical health. Your mental health deserves the same focus to keep you and your family strong and healthy.
Everyone, regardless of age or experience, deserves to be seen and heard without worrying that their story is not important enough or dramatic enough to be appreciated. LiveNLearn was founded to help individuals and families use their life experiences to successfully navigate current life struggles. We believe that everyone has a story that is best told in their own voice. Our educational advocacy services mirror our counseling services by evaluating strengths and using them to empower all family members to be strong in the face of adversity.
LiveNLearn is also dedicated to those professionals who serve to make all of our lives better. Teachers, nurses, EMS, and all professionals who serve the at-risk and special needs populations work with unrivaled dedication. Often, they do so with little appreciation or compensation. It is a national tragedy that our selfless helpers are burning out and leaving their calling by the hundreds. LiveNLearn has unique workshops targeting these professions to teach them every day tips and tricks to helping themselves with as much fervor and dedication as they help others.
